Upholding and Advancing Pitt’s Impact
Pitt External Relations strategically cultivates and strengthens the University’s external relationships and fosters internal engagement to amplify Pitt’s impact. This includes leading philanthropic and development initiatives that secure vital resources and alumni relations efforts that build lasting connections with graduates. The office champions Pitt’s role as an anchor institution and enhances understanding of its academic, research, and economic contributions.

Senior Vice Chancellor for External Relations
As a key member of the University of Pittsburgh's senior leadership team, Kevin Washo oversees the Engagement and Community Affairs, Government Relations and Advocacy, Philanthropic and Alumni Engagement, and University Communications and Marketing. His responsibilities include leading the University's development and fundraising efforts, securing resources to support Pitt's academic and research priorities. He also directs alumni relations initiatives that cultivate ongoing connections and engagement with the University's graduates. Mr. Washo is also responsible for articulating the University's value and impact to community partners, government officials, prospective donors, alumni, and the public.
Divisions & Offices

(ECA) executes a multi-faceted community engagement strategy that mobilizes the institution’s assets with community partners to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes.

(GRA) serves as the primary liaison between the University and our partners in local, state, and federal government.

(UCM) works to raise the University’s profile, strengthen its reputation, and differentiate Pitt and its value proposition among target audiences.
