E.J. Borghetti

As special assistant to the senior vice chancellor for external relations, E.J. Borghetti acts as a strategic adviser to External Relations leadership and supports and strengthens engagement efforts with key constituents and audiences. He is responsible for amplifying institutional storytelling efforts to expand the University of Pittsburgh’s reach and reputation.

Borghetti owns nearly three decades of dedicated service to the University as an administrator in the Department of Athletics. As the chief spokesperson for Pitt Athletics and director of media initiatives for the football program, he earned the department’s Gold Standard Administrator of the Year award for 2024-25. Under his guidance, the University’s sports information department received seven Super 11 honors from the Football Writers Association of America. Borghetti also was recognized with the Dominic T. Roppa Memorial Award from the Pittsburgh Chapter of the National Italian American Sports Hall of Fame. Throughout his career, he promoted 18 first-team All-Americans, including legends like Aaron Donald and Larry Fitzgerald. Beyond his behind-the-scenes work, Borghetti regularly appears on camera for Pitt’s Hall of Fame series and was also a featured voice on the ACC Network special “Traditions: Pitt.” A lifelong Pitt history enthusiast, he played a key role in launching the Pitt Athletics Hall of Fame in 2018.

Borghetti is a proud 1992 magna cum laude graduate of the University with a bachelor’s degree in communications and got his professional start as an undergraduate sports information intern. His deep roots at Pitt include his father, Ernie, an All-America tackle for the Panthers. Borghetti and his wife, Lauren, a three-time Pitt graduate, have three sons: Branden, Drew and Conner.
